SLEEPING WITH A BRA: YES OR NO?
This is a question you ask us a lot. "Is it good to sleep with a bra?" "Can it harm our breasts?"
It depends on the bra and the person.
Not all women need to sleep with a bra. It mainly depends on two things:
Breast size. If you have large breasts, sleeping with a bra might be one of the best options for a good night's sleep and to avoid discomfort. Although, of course, this will depend a lot on the person and on… >>
Breast sensitivity. Regardless of our size, many of us women have sensitive breasts, especially during our period. During this time, our breasts are usually very sensitive, and any position where the breast moves can be very uncomfortable for us.
Are all bras suitable for sleeping?
Obviously, there are certain requirements that a sleep bra must meet, and others that you should definitely avoid.
What a sleep bra should be like
-Top style. The more top-like, the better.
-It should have as few seams as possible, especially internal seams – get rid of them!
-If it has clasps at the back, they should be padded and lined.
-It shouldn't be too restrictive. Yes, it shouldn't be a super structured bra that doesn't allow us to move freely.
So… What a sleep bra should NOT be like or, even better, what an ideal sleep bra should NOT have:
-It should not have underwire. Underwire can cause a lot of discomfort while sleeping. A special sleep bra should NEVER have underwire. There are many wireless bras ideal for sleeping.
-It should not have foam cups. Foam only serves to bother you if it's a sleep bra. The ideal sleep bra should only have the fabric in the cup necessary for support. This way, you'll feel it like a second skin.
-It should not have a hook-and-eye closure, and if it does, the hooks should be lined and padded.
-And the most important thing to always keep in mind is that a sleep bra should never be too tight. It's essential for blood to circulate well while we sleep.
Why is it good to sleep with a bra if I have large breasts?
Because of breast movement when we're in bed. If the breast is well-supported, it will move with the body and you will barely notice it.
Because of the discomfort it causes. It's very uncomfortable to move to change position and have your breasts move at a different rhythm, isn't it? This happens especially when we have large breasts.
For the skin of the breast. If the breast moves too much while we sleep, we will be contributing to affecting its elasticity, and for example, stretch marks may appear.
For breast deterioration. If we wear a bra during the day to keep our breasts in place and well-supported, the same applies at night if we have large breasts. If the breasts move at a different rhythm than the body when we change position, and so day after day, the breasts will deteriorate a little faster than if they are kept well-supported and in place.
And as we mentioned before, this doesn't happen to all women with large breasts. Many don't notice it while sleeping, are comfortable, or don't have sensitive breasts at all and don't need it. So, of course, in this case, you shouldn't wear a sleep bra.
And precisely for this reason, women with small breasts can and should wear a sleep bra when their breasts are very sensitive and they feel they need it. In this case, perhaps especially during menstruation or lactation, when our breasts are usually very sensitive, regardless of our size.
And basically, this is what you need to know when you're considering whether you want or should sleep with a bra.
It depends on each of us! No more, no less :)
You just have to remember that sleeping with a bra will in no case be bad for your breasts or your health, as long as it meets the requirements of a good sleep bra, because not all of them, or even many, are suitable. Get rid of all those myths that have been created over time!
However, always keep in mind what type of bra is suitable for sleeping. Because it's true that a daily bra is not suitable and, of course, it can hurt you while sleeping. You need to be clear about what type of bra is perfect for sleeping and that's it.
Look at these, for example, which are what we always recommend!
They all meet the characteristics we discussed at the beginning of the article. And in addition, they will not only serve you for sleeping, but also for those days when we are confined at home and want to be very comfortable on the sofa, chair or wherever!
