·LINGERIE RENOVATION AND CARE·
When does a bra's life end? What about panties? When is it time to retire them?
When it comes to panties, it's much easier; a simple glance tells us whether they're moving to the old panties pile or going straight to the trash. But what about bras?
Bras are created with one sole mission: to support the breasts. Once they stop fulfilling this mission, it's best to retire them. It's no good saying... "I'll keep this one for sports or for lazy Sundays at home."
Nor should we feel bad about throwing away a garment that no longer functions properly. Our health is always the most important thing, and if a bra (as we have already explained in previous posts) does not fulfill its support function, it can cause "problems" such as very uncomfortable muscle or back pain.
No matter how much we like a particular style, we need to know when to retire it. We assure you that there will be many other styles you'll like just as much, if not more! It's important to understand that keeping a bra that doesn't support your breasts is a huge mistake. It's like sabotaging ourselves: Think... You wear a bra to keep your breasts in place so that over time and with their weight, they DON'T sag, right? But by wearing a bra in poor condition, you would be causing exactly that. Why keep it then?
The truth is there's no set time for a bra's expiration date, but our eyes and feelings will be the ones to know when its "time has come."
If you're really wondering if it's time to change your bra, start by asking yourself... how long has it been since you bought it? What condition is it in? How have you washed it? (IMPORTANT) Does it support your breasts correctly, or do your breasts feel loose, more than usual, when you wear it?
The most visible signs that your bra is not in good condition would be the following:
-Stretched and/or frayed.
-Color change.
-Marks on the cups.
-Broken underwires or underwires that have poked through the fabric and are coming out.
On the other hand, if you want to know if it's still providing proper support, pay attention to the following details:
-Fastening position. If it's fastened on the last hook and you still don't feel it's secure, it might not be supporting you as it should and feels rather loose.
-Significantly adjusted straps. Another sign that the bra isn't fitting your band correctly. Pulling the strap up too much will cause the band to ride up too high and not stay in its correct position.
-Sagging breasts or strange shape. It's hard to remember how a bra looked on you initially, but we all know how and where our breasts should be. You need to be honest and pay close attention. If your breasts aren't at the right height, you notice them lower than usual even with the bra on, then your bra has definitely reached its limit.
THE BEST TIPS FOR PROPER BRA CARE
When washing, avoid fabric softeners; they smell great but damage the elastic.
Hand washing is also advisable, as washing machines practically include a spin cycle in all their programs, which can damage them prematurely.
Hand washing is easier than it seems; don't think we're going back in time at all. Keep in mind that these are garments that don't get very dirty, at most with a little sweat, and washing them won't take much time.
Even so, if you're one of those who don't have enough time to hand wash them, our advice for washing underwear in the washing machine would be, as we've already mentioned:
1. Do not use fabric softener,
2. Absolutely use a laundry bag (look how cute this one is),
3. Fasten the hooks, and
4. Use short cycles.
